Who We Are

We are Mulembe In Western Australia (WA), a peace-loving community with a wealth of culture within ourselves brought together by the diversity of our membersOur logo speaks volumes of who we are: The Green roof, text, and the brown color base of the round hut reminds us not only of our ancestral land but also our agricultural/farming spirit that sustains the Luhya community. The hut represents family  – this generally gives the idea of ‘home’ where we belongThe hut itself rests on a foundation like that of a silo/grain store – that’s food that sustains us and brings us together at our feasts. The drum is a representation of our music: Isukuti, Mutibu, and joyous spirit. When we gather in good and bad times, we burst into song.  Luhya music is unique, it is on the shoulders and in the “Indumbu” The golden circle and stars around the sun represent a source of light and certainly our inbuilt desire to remain unbroken – bound together in love and peace. KHUHAMBANE  – it’s a word that means ‘let us be united’. It is an invitation, not a command or order – those who choose the path of love and peace will unite. Mulembe!
